Initiation Stage 1 – Hitting Arm Action Introduction Game: Game Progression 1
$1.99
This 2 vs 2 modified game introduces the fundamentals of the spiking arm-swing. Players learn how to hit the ball over the net using one hand, as well as how and when a hit is used in the game. It also teaches them the basic tactics of volleyball – specifically the concept of attacking and defending territory, how to use the hitting action to try to score, and the desired movement path of the ball (to the net, along the net, then over the net) in a rally.
Description
Introducing volleyball to new (especially young) players can be quite challenging. The initiation drills and games featured on this web site can make this process much easier. Best of all, little volleyball knowledge is required to create a fun learning environment for the players and most games can be organized to run with up to 16 players on each court.
The introduction process used on this web site teaches the game in “reverse.” We start by introducing the spike (or more specifically the concept of playing the ball across the net overhand and with one hand), then the overhead pass, then the forearm pass, and finally the serve. Approaching the introduction of the game this way leads to a lot of fun and interesting “modified games” for the new players. It reduces their frustration with learning the skills and the focus on “play” rather than drills really keeps them motivated and engaged. Using this approach you will be able to get the players up and playing a modified version of the game almost immediately – even if you have limited volleyball knowledge. Really no “initial skill level” is required to start playing right away.
